When you gotta go, you gotta go. Americans have constipation problems, which is why laxatives serve a $750 million a year industry.
Many of the popular herbal remedies contained powerful cathartics. These so called natural laxatives will send you running to the bathroom.
Americans are in fact so constipated they don't know what normal bowel movements are. You should poop once per every big meal you have the day before. And, there are more reasons than can be counted that cause this constipation. Mostly it's in the diet.
Home Remedies
If you're uncomfortable and find it hard to go, then the first thing you should do is get fiber, exercise and fluids.
One thing that also works well is a meal of nothing but raw fruit.
The American diet is notorious for having low fiber, which is a major cause of constipation. While fiber can really help, don't overdose if you're not use to it. A large dose of insoluble fiber in an unhealthy system can cause bloating, cramps, and intestinal gas.
Prunes
This is an old constipation remedy. Again, don't eat too much. These can cause bad stomach gas so just eat a few at a time. Dates are also another variation of this.
Try soaking 6 dates in hot water, and then drink it when the water cools off.
Well, if you've tried those and are still having problems, try a bulk forming laxative like psyllium. It's a natural fiber from plantago seeds. Psyllium will swell so drink 8 ounces of water before taking it.
Some of these brands include Citrucel, Cologel, Fibercon, Equalactin, Maltsupex, and Mitrolan. For many psyllium is the best chose but it won't be good if you have an intestinal problem or Crohn's disease. It can also give you a feeling of fullness, bloating, abdominal cramping, and gas so start it slowly and don't go overboard with it.
